Religious Histroy Of Kerala

Kerala is a land of diverse religions and cultures. The state has been deeply influenced by the arrival of various religious communities over the centuries. Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, and Jainism are some of the major religions that have made their mark in Kerala. Hinduism arrived in Kerala around 2000 years ago. It was during this period that several temples were constructed across the state. Some of these ancient temples like Sabarimala temple and Guruvayur temple are famous not only within India but also globally. Christianity came to Kerala through St. Thomas who arrived here in AD 52. He established several churches across the Malabar coast which still exist today as important pilgrimage sites for Christians worldwide. Islam reached Kerala towards the end of seventh century when Arab traders started visiting its shores for trade purposes. Later, many Muslim invaders conquered parts of South India including Kerala leading to widespread conversions among local populations. Jainism also had a presence in Kerala at one point but it's currently a minority religion with limited followership. The influence of different religions can be seen throughout Kerala's art forms, architecture and festivals making it an ideal destination for travelers interested in exploring diverse cultures and traditions while on their holiday package or South India travel package!

Things to keep in mind Before visiting Kerala

Before embarking on a journey to Kerala, there are some important things that one should keep in mind. Firstly, it's important to understand the weather conditions of the region. Kerala has a tropical climate and experiences high humidity levels throughout the year. Therefore, packing light cotton clothes would be ideal for comfortable travel. Secondly, knowing about local customs and traditions is crucial when visiting any new place. In Kerala, removing footwear before entering temples or homes is considered a sign of respect. It's also advisable to dress modestly while visiting religious places. Thirdly, being aware of local cuisine will help travelers make informed choices while dining out. Traditional Keralan food tends to be spicy and coconut-based; however, milder options are available as well. Fourthly, communicating with locals can provide valuable insights into daily life in Kerala. Most people here speak Malayalam but English is widely spoken too.
