History and Mythology of Kinnaur Kailash: Legends and Myths behind the appearance of Kinnaur Kailash.

The Kinnaur Kailash is closely connected with the Hindu mythology and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Package. According to local legends, this is the winter home of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The star attraction is the 79-foot-high Kinnaur Kailash Shivling rock, which, according to local lore, changes hues during the day, representing a mystic’s various moods.

It is said that during their exile, the Pandavas also visited Kinnaur. Villagers also claim that Lord Shiva used to hold his divine congregations with sages here. It is this mythical dimension that has turned the trek not only into a test of endurance but also a pilgrimage for faithful and devoted Muslims.

Good Time to Book Kinnaur Kailash Trip

The hiking window can be brief and is dependent on weather.
  • May–July: Favourite season with amazing weather, Apple Orchards in bloom and Trails visible.
  • (August–September) After the monsoon, lush greenery but prone to landslides.
  • October Crisp skies, beautiful scenery, but its nights are very cold.
  • November–April: Extreme cold winter and heavy snow – trekking is impossible.
I would suggest for first-time trekkers the most balanced duration to be late June to early September.

How to Reach Kinnaur Kailash

  • By Air: The closest airport is at Shimla Jubbarhatti (250 km). Chandigarh Airport (330 km) is a better connected and more convenient option.
The trekking paths start there from Reckong Peo to Kinnaur Kailash base camp.
