Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The temple sits at an altitude of approximately 3,583 metres, and devotees enshrine Lord Shiva here in the form of Mahakala. The temple's tranquil atmosphere – juxtaposed with the snowy high peaks – contributes to adding purity and solemnity to its spiritual environment. He is also worshipped over here as the "Lord of Kedar". The temple is significant for the Shaivas sect.
Samadhi of Adi Shankaracharya: It is at the backside of the temple where Adi Shankaracharya, who revived Hinduism, constructed this temple and his master’s samadhi.
Panch Kedar: One of the Panch Kedar (Pentad of 5 Siva temples), the most significant of all is Kedarnath; the others are Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhymaheshwar and Kalpeshwar.
